Key responsibilities in Delegate Sales

Engaging and connecting with industry leaders

Delegate sales is a business-to-business role in the events industry, and you’ll build relationships with key players across multiple industries to secure their involvement in events. You’ll contact senior managers, directors and c-suite professionals to persuade them to attend relevant events for their personal and professional development.

Developing effective communication strategies

As a delegate sales executive, you’ll contribute to the development of effective communication strategies for target audiences and the refinement of value propositions. This process will involve collaboration with research and marketing teams to evaluate and adjust these strategies.

Speaking with prospective and existing customers

If you’re a people person with an excellent telephone manner, you’ll thrive in delegate sales. As a delegate sales professional, you’ll be responsible for communicating (primarily by phone) with prospective and existing customers to explain conference values propositions and other important information.

Key responsibilities in Delegate Sales

Selling high value sponsorship packages

Through using a combination of phone based and face-to-face sales techniques, sponsorship sales professionals generate revenues through the sale of high value sponsorship packages to relevant solution providers.

Leading client and market research

In sponsorship sales roles, you’ll be responsible for researching and identifying senior directors and business managers in target markets to pitch your tailored sponsorship proposals.

Creating bespoke packages for clients

In the exhibition and sponsorship sales industry, client need is your number one priority. You’ll lead the way in the development and creation of bespoke packages to suit the unique needs of your clients.

Sales openings

  • What is the difference between sponsorship sales and delegate sales?

Sponsorship sales sells partnership packages, speaking slots, branding and exhibition space to companies that want to reach an event's audience. Delegate sales sells paid tickets and group packages to the people who attend. Both are target driven, but sponsorship deals are usually larger with longer sales cycles.

  • What does a sponsorship sales manager do?

A sponsorship sales manager researches and approaches potential sponsors, understands their commercial goals and builds packages that deliver leads, brand visibility or thought leadership at the event. They manage the deal from first call to delivery and renewal.

  • Do you need sales experience to get into B2B events sales?

Not always. Graduate delegate and sponsorship sales roles are open to people with resilience, strong communication and commercial drive. For mid and senior roles, employers want a track record of hitting targets, ideally selling to senior business audiences.

  • What makes a great B2B events salesperson?

Curiosity about the client's business, consistent activity, honesty and the ability to build long term relationships. The best sellers understand the event content and audience as well as the producer does.
