How to thrive in uncertain times

Don’t Just Survive – Thrive in Uncertain Times!

It is common across the globe that the business world is constantly facing lots of uncertainty.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, Brexit, technological breakthroughs (including AI), political & economic instability, wars & conflicts as well as the wide-scale environmental changes there is a lot of uncertainty as to how this will impact the way we work, live and grow. It’s important to keep skills and develop resilience to help you not only cope but thrive in these uncertain times.

Here are our 7 tips for how to deal with uncertainty and make the most out of uncertain times:

Build Quality Relationships

Develop positive connections with people you care about and who care about you. Positive relationships foster well-being and thriving, this reduces stress, improves health and lengthens lives. Managers and teams benefit significantly by developing positive work connections as they enjoy stronger interpersonal connections and develop a sense of community. If you want to stay strong during difficult times, build a strong community!

Acknowledge your Emotions

By acknowledging and accepting your emotions you are less likely to be triggered by heightened emotions such as anger, sadness, frustration, or excitement. Rather than suppressing or avoiding them, try to acknowledge and own these feelings and reduce their intensity thus providing more clarity and control over a situation.

Adopt a More Flexible and Adaptable Approach

By using a more flexible and adaptable approach to difficult situations, you will become more creative and innovative with solutions and opportunities, enhancing your ability to cope with change and uncertainty better.

Focus on What you can Control

Uncertainty can make you feel helpless and as if everything is out of your control. However, what you can control your how you react, your attitude and your actions. By planning, seeking support and learning new skills, you will adopt a positive approach to identify what you can do to improve a situation and how to cope with it – this will boost your motivation and confidence!

Focus on Learning and Growth

Use uncertainty as an opportunity to grow and develop your skill set. By embracing a growth mindset, you can enhance your creativity and resilience.

Celebrate your Achievements

Find reasons to be proud of yourself and your progress! Recognise your achievements, however big or small. You can do this by rewarding yourself for completing a task, sharing your success with others, or keeping a gratitude journal. Celebrating your achievements will increase your self-esteem and happiness, helping you to feel like you are moving forward.

Ask for Feedback and Support

You can feel isolated and alone in times of uncertainty. Seeking feedback and support will allow you to improve your skills and relationships. This can be vital to reducing isolation and allowing yourself to thrive, getting a 3rd person perspective on your situation.
