Work From Anywhere: Perk or Productivity Booster?

As part of a client’s benefits review, we explored a question that’s becoming increasingly relevant across the B2B events industry:

Should employees be able to work remotely from anywhere in the world for up to four weeks a year?

It’s a perk that sounds aspirational – but does it really influence someone’s decision to join a company in events, marketing, or sales?

The Poll Results

We asked our LinkedIn Community: Would the ability to work remotely from anywhere for 4 weeks a year sway your decision to join a company?

Nearly 200 UK-based professionals, mostly from B2B events, conference production, marketing, and sponsorship sales, responded:

  • 30% – Game changer, must have
  • 61% – Nice-to-have, not a dealbreaker
  • 8% – Doesn’t matter to me

That’s 91% who see this level of flexibility as a positive differentiator – a sign an employer understands modern work-life balance.

What Professionals Said:

Event professionals and marketers shared valuable insights:

“I had this at a previous company – it didn’t affect my productivity, it improved it!”

“For parents, it’s a lifesaver. Being able to work abroad outside of school holidays makes travel affordable.”

“If this benefit applied to in-office roles, it could completely change how people view hybrid working.”

“Employers must consider visa, tax, and legal implications before introducing it.”

What It Means for UK Employers in Events

For employers in events, conferences, and media, “Work From Anywhere” can be a powerful retention and attraction tool – but it needs structure.

Here’s what to consider:

  • Tax & Legal: Understand which countries and durations are low-risk.
  • Visas: Clarify which destinations are permitted and for how long.
  • Data Protection: Maintain GDPR compliance and enforce secure working methods.
  • Insurance & Liability: Ensure coverage extends overseas.
  • Eligibility: Define who qualifies, and how requests are approved.
  • Communication: Set clear expectations for working hours and availability.

More Than a Perk – It’s About Trust

Even if not, everyone uses it “Work From Anywhere” signals trust, autonomy, and respect for employees’ lives outside work.

For professionals in B2B events, conference production, marketing, sponsorship, and event management, flexibility can be the deciding factor when choosing their next employer.

As one respondent put it perfectly:

“It didn’t affect my productivity – in fact, it helped my performance.”

Final Thought

Flexibility isn’t just a perk anymore – it’s becoming an expectation.
The real question for employers is no longer “Can we make this work?”
It’s “Can we afford not to?”
