Starting Strong in B2B Sponsorship Sales: How to Thrive in Your First 90 Days

Starting a new sales role can feel like stepping into the spotlight.

For B2B sponsorship sales professionals, the pressure is real: targets are set, expectations are high, and every call, email, and meeting can feel like a test. It often takes a few weeks, or even months, to find your rhythm. That first deal? It’s the milestone that lets you finally breathe.

But what happens when it takes longer than expected? Stress can build, self-doubt can creep in, and motivation can waver.

Over the summer, I spoke with several event sales professionals about how they navigated those early days. Here’s the practical advice they shared:

🔹 Trust the process – Stick to your sales plan, stay organised, and be consistent. Progress often comes incrementally.

🔹 Keep things simple – Avoid overcomplicating calls, emails, or outreach. Clear, concise communication wins.

🔹 Leverage your tools – Your CRM, LinkedIn, and colleagues are resources designed to support you. Use them.

🔹 Communicate with your manager regularly – Share your progress, ask for guidance, and listen to their feedback and advice.

🔹 Celebrate every win – Even small victories matter. Recognising progress builds confidence, motivation, and morale.

🔹 Keep perspective – Your first deal may take time. Focus on consistent effort and learning each day, and results will follow.

One sales professional shared: “My colleague set up my first deal and passed it my way; it gave me a great start and removed the pressure.” Small gestures like this can make a huge difference in building momentum early in your career.

Showing up, staying consistent, communicating, and learning every day are the foundations of success in sponsorship sales. First deals may take time, but persistence pays off.
