If you\u2019ve arrived at this article, it is more than likely you are at a crossroads in your career and you are looking for an answer to a simple question\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Since the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, people’s priorities have changed thus impacting their work and their commitments.<\/p>\n

There are negative connotations around leaving your job, such as being seen as disloyal, lazy, or ungrateful.<\/p>\n

If you are considering leaving your job and you\u2019re thinking like this then get those ideas out of your head.<\/p>\n

There are many reasons people leave their jobs, with millions of workers changing jobs every year, and can be a positive step towards taking control of your future.<\/p>\n

Workers in the UK will have 12 different jobs throughout their lifetime, spending an average of 4.1 years in the same role.<\/p>\n

1. When do I know it\u2019s time to quit?<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are three aspects to consider when deciding whether to leave your current employment: the role<\/em>, the company<\/em>, and the industry<\/em>.<\/p>\n

You could be in the right role, but the wrong company culture, or it\u2019s the right sector, but the role doesn\u2019t challenge you.<\/p>\n

Having a conversation about changing roles or moving teams with someone at work could make you happier and stop you from resigning unnecessarily.<\/p>\n

However, if you are feeling miserable and dread going to work every Monday morning then this is a sign to leave.<\/p>\n

Before handing in your notice, make sure you understand what the root cause of your dissatisfaction is.<\/p>\n

2. Work Colleagues<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are your colleagues like? Are they supportive or not? Is your manager difficult or distant? Do you feel valued as an employee? If you don\u2019t think you are being treated fairly, this is worth looking at or even calling out.<\/p>\n

3. Company Culture<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people talk about a toxic work environment being the reason for leaving, but what does this mean for you?<\/p>\n

Do your colleagues disrespect you or other employees? Does your boss shout at their employees at any given opportunity? Are there unrealistic expectations constantly asked of you?<\/p>\n

Whatever it may be, a negative work culture can be demoralising so it\u2019s important to be aware of the signs and make a judgment call when enough is enough.<\/p>\n

4. The Role<\/strong><\/p>\n

Where you like working for the company, it might be the role that\u2019s not working for you. Think about if this role is challenging enough for you, maybe you feel bored or that you\u2019ve outgrown the role, but a promotion isn\u2019t available.<\/p>\n

Or it\u2019s the opposite where the role\u2019s responsibilities are too much for you and you\u2019re constantly stressed or even burnt out. Sometimes it\u2019s as simple as your pay not reflecting your expertise.<\/p>\n

Career mobility, pay rise, and working conditions could all be revised with a conversation with your manager however, if these important areas are not addressed, then this could be a sign to start job searching.<\/p>\n

5. The Decision<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the end, only you can know when it\u2019s time to leave but, having the knowledge and understanding of what the driving force is can make for a more wise and more informed decision that will help guide you towards better opportunities.<\/p>\n
