The Business Development Manager position is a varied, fast paced and demanding role, with a focus on results-based sales. Ideally, you will have 1-2 years’ experience in conference sponsorship sales gained in a quality B2B events business.

 

The company

This leading international media & events organisation have hundreds of employees working from a network of global offices. This Business Development Manager role sits within the telecoms publishing & events team. The telco team are a leading provider of news, intelligence and analysis for the international telecoms business community, their events are a mix of UK & Internationally based congresses, summits, awards ceremonies and exhibitions.

 

The job

Due to expansion our client is recruiting an additional Business Development Manager to join their telecoms events team. The Business Development Manager is responsible for generating revenues for events through the sale of high value event sponsorship packages to blue chip clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing business relationships - research, identify & close business with new companies
  • Maximising revenue from current and previous sponsors & exhibitors
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of your market – become a market expert
  • Building and maintaining a healthy pipeline of qualified leads/business
  • Organising and managing your time effectively
  • Forward planning and prioritising your work
  • Picking up the phone and making things happen – the role involves lots of phone based sales with face to face selling (you are encouraged to book client meetings and attend events)
  • Accurate reporting & forecasting
  • Achieving revenue targets within the agreed timelines for each event
  • Work as part of the wider events team, updating and informing your colleagues of your progress and sharing relevant insight. This is a supportive team environment.
  • Identifying opportunities for events to develop and new conferences to be launched
  • International travel will be required to attend events and client meetings.

 

The person

We are looking for a B2B sales professional with 1-2 years experience selling sponsorship opportunities in the events industry. However, our client will consider B2B sales professionals looking to transfer their commercial B2B sales skills into events; if you work in recruitment, delegate sales or in IT / media sales please apply.

  • Graduate - educated at least to degree level
  • Outstanding communication skills – face to face and over the telephone
  • Your ability to persuade and influence is key to being successful in this role
  • Be a strong team player and sales leader
  • Able to source new business from competitors, events, and internet
  • Able to maintain and grow new and existing business from direct clients and agencies
  • Fulfil the whole sales cycle from the sourcing to client liaison
  • Ability to meet deadlines and targets
  • Work in an organised and proactive fashion
  • Self motivated, ambitious and positive professional with a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Committed to driving projects forward & taking responsibility
  • Confident using CRM such as Salesforce
  • Knowledge of sales techniques such as SPIN would be advantageous
