Great opportunity for an English & German speaking Graduate looking for a Marketing, Business Development & Events Internship within a leading global events company.

 

We are recruiting a confident graduate to work with a great team that create B2B conferences & media products. The conferences are large in scale, are held all over the world and they attract a high profile business professionals.

We are looking for an intern to join our client on a 3 month contract. This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door of a global media & events business. This is a short-term paid contract to work on specific tasks with a view to renewing the contract or moving onto a permanent role for the right person.

 

 

WHERE COULD IT GO?

The skills you need for the internship are applicable to business development, conference production and marketing, so for the right person it could lead to a permanent position in either of these functions.

 

WHAT’S THE JOB?

This media & events client is expanding their existing events and launching new conferences, you will have the opportunity to work across both. The events are big; they are normally 2 days and have fabulous exhibitors, pay to attend conference with high level speakers and lots of networking opportunities. Your role will be to support the business development managers & conference producers with conference research, speaker recruitment, social media marketing, finding new start-up exhibitors and promoting the event to potential VIP delegates. Fluency in both English & German languages is essential for this role as one of the events is held in Germany and you will be communicating in German.

 

The role can be split into 3 parts:

Finding Start-ups for the event – they are young exciting companies and they bring energy, interest and attendance to the events. They need to be found and encouraged to participate:

  • Research to find interesting and relevant start-ups
  • Reach out to them, mostly by phone, possibly by email to invite and confirm their attendance as Free participants
  • Keep in touch to make sure they are engaged and do attend
  • Upsell – some might want to speak, but they must pay if they want this
  • Help manage them onsite

 

2. Identifying & securing VIPs – successful events demand that the right audience attends, and some of these need to be invited to attend for free. This is done by:

  • Working with the conference managers and BDM’s to understand the people who need to attend
  • Researching potential names and companies
  • Inviting and confirming them by reaching them through whatever manor you can: telephone, email, LinkedIn etc.

 

3. Assist the Conference Producer – The conference producer is responsible for creating the event (this is not an event manager role) you will have the opportunity to work with the conference producer to assist with:

  • Market research & analysis, developing topic ideas, creating the agenda, speaker recruitment
  • Promoting the event in English & German via the website & social media alongside the marketing team (twitter, website, Linkedin, etc)

 

This is a varied position, with all parts of the job being important to the business and they demand a high degree of energy, you need to be resourceful and able to handle rejection – even offering things for free isn’t easy!

 

 

YOUR KEY SKILLS

  1. Resourceful and intelligent – you need to find people, and you need to be able to understand why they are relevant to us
  2. Excellent Research skills – required for all 3 elements of the role, lots of phone based research too
  3. Strong time management –this is a varied job, you will need to plan your time and use it well
  4. Great communication skills – on the phone and in writing
  5. Resilient and ambitious – this isn’t an easy role, people are hard to get hold of and then may not be interested, but it’s a great grounding for a future role in events.
